Evelyn was born in Zillah and grew up in the Lower Valley. After living for a short time in Portland and Seattle, she returned to Yakima where she lived the rest of her life. She retired after a long career as a civilian office manager at the Yakima Firing Center, now known as the Yakima Training Center.
Evelyn will be best remembered as a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. As a single parent, she sacrificed for many years in order to provide for her six children. After they were raised and educated, Evelyn's emphasis shifted to being a grandmother and, eventually, great-grandmother. Her social life was comprised almost entirely of family-oriented events and gatherings.
Evelyn is survived by a brother, James Wesselius of Minden, LA, and six children Linda (Tom) Wauzynski of Centralia, Diana (Mike) McMurry of Yakima, Mike (Teresa) Funk of Kennewick, Brian (Brenda) Smith of Vancouver, Bruce (Ginger) Smith of Yakima, and Mark (Susan) Smith of Camas. She has 18 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Christine Funk; two husbands, Eugene Funk and Columbus (Chris) Smith; her parents, Morris and Irene Wesselius; and a brother, Elmer Wesselius.
Evelyn's family would like to thank the staff at Landmark Care Center for the wonderful care she received while living there, especially during the last few weeks of her life. Your kindness and thoughtful gestures were noticed and appreciated.
Viewing will be available on Saturday, Aug. 4th and Sunday, Aug. 5th from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm at Keith & Keith Funeral Home, 902 W.
