Frank E. Howe, 82, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2016. Frank was born in Yakima on April 17, 1933. After finishing 8th grade, he was hired on at Broadway School as a custodian and their very first bus driver. After enlisting in the Marine Corps, he was assigned as a Colonel’s driver. His passion for driving led him to a career with Greyhound, where he retired after 30 years. As a bus driver, Frank had the opportunity to travel the country meeting and connecting with thousands of people. In addition, he was a certified commercial pilot and had his own flight instruction school.
After retiring, Frank was a dedicated volunteer for the DAV, making close to 500 round trips to the VA hospitals, logging over one million miles transporting many disabled veterans.
Frank enjoyed taking people for rides in his airplane and sharing many sites around the Yakima Valley. He also volunteered at the McAllister Air Museum. Most of all, Frank enjoyed spending time with his longtime companion, Jeanette. Together, the couple traveled the world whether it was on a cruise ship or in their Winnebago.
Frank will be forever remembered for his kind heart and generosity. He would always lend a hand (or his toys) and enjoyed every minute of it. He leaves a legacy of devotion to be cherished by his family and friends.
Frank is survived by his 5 brothers, Richard, Bob, David, Mark and Tom; companion, Phyllis Alderson; 5 grandchildren, Tom, Jason, Mindy, Dawn and Jennifer; 15 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father Elmer; mother Erma; companion Jeanette; sons, Scott and Frank, and granddaughter, Jeanny.
Visitation will take place on April 13th from 4:00 –8:00 pm at Keith & Keith Funeral Home. The service will be held on April 15th at 10:00 am at Keith & Keith Funeral Home, with a burial to follow at West Hills Memorial.
