(1932-2025)
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Gerald Joseph Henning, who peacefully departed on July 8, 2025, at the age of 93. Gerald was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend.
Born in Cunningham, Kansas, on April 29, 1932, Gerald was the son of Leo and Bertha Henning. He was the second oldest of eleven children. He is survived by his brothers Everett, Leroy, Mike, and sister Cathy. The following siblings preceded him in death: Jean, Ramona, Dorlene, Elizabeth, Leo, and Jim. Gerald was a loving and caring father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He and his first wife, Donna Trudeau, had six children. He later married his loving wife Joyce McLaughlin who had 5 children. Altogether there are 20 grandchildren, and 33 great grandchildren.
Gerald graduated from Toppish High School. He was a veteran of the US Army during the Korean War and served in Moraco. He was a hardworking man who built a career as a laborer. As a laborer, he taught at the Jobs Corp in White Swan and was also an office manager for the laborer’s union. Gerald retired from the laborer’s union in 1994.
Gerald was a dedicated family man and a jack of all trades. There was nothing he could not fix or build. He helped all of his children fix up their 1964 Chevy Impalas. Countless weekends were spent playing pinochle or cribbage with grandparents and brothers. Every summer, family vacations were at Fort Canby, WA, fishing for perch from the cliffs below the lighthouse. He would go on long motorcycle rides with his brothers and sons through the Pacific Northwest and Canada. He and Joyce enjoyed seeing the country and visiting relatives in their motorhome.
Gerald's unwavering love and support will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of hard work, integrity, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
Funeral service will be held on July 23, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. John Catholic Church, 206 Moxee Ave, Naches, Washington. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Gerald's memory.
