He was a lifetime resident and orchardist in West Valley, living his whole life in the home his father built.
He was preceded in death by his older brother Urban, his parents and all of his cousins. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Janice (Washburn) Carlson, a daughter Robin (Carlson) Petersen (Ronald) of Sumner, WA and a son Michael E. Carlson (Amber) of Zillah, WA; four granddaughters, Samantha and Jessica Petersen and Madison and Michaela Carlson and his brother and best friend Ronald Carlson and several nieces and nephews.
Gordy was an avid fisherman, he was ready to go the Rimrock, Campbell River, BC or the Cowiltz River any time. He was fishing on the Cowlitz River when Mt. St. Helens erupted. The Sheriff told them to get off the river so he fished another hour before leaving.
He was Robin’s biggest fan when she played basketball at Central, missing only two out of town games. He loved his children, teaching Mike about farming and hunting and of course fishing. Gordy loved a good meal and he never missed a crab feed or Lutefisk dinner. He had a big smile and Mischievous grin that always kept you on your toes.
Gordy was a life long member of the Wiley Heights Covenant Church. He enjoyed many years of playing baseball and the church league softball. He loved to watch his grandkids play sports as well.
