

Meadow Hospice Care with his family by his side. He was born and raised in Selah to Oscar and
Aimee Spencer.
After graduating from Selah High School he drove throughout the Midwest as a
traveling salesman. Tiring of that he applied for a management position at Grandview Grange
Supply and was accepted where he sold farm implements and designed and operated a grain
mill.
He met and married Adelia White and started his family. Because of his job description
he was exempted from service and decided to obtain his private pilot's license in 1943. He
enjoyed his hours in the air except for 2 unexpected crash landings. After many years in
Grandview he decided to start a wholesale hardware company which he organized here in
Yakima. He later decided to get into the insurance business and was able to start purchasing
rental properties. In 1964 he was one of the co-founders of the Yakima Valley Apartment
Association which became Yakima Landlords Association. He eventually acquired enough
apartments to make a full time living. He retired from the rental business in his 90's.
He was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church.
He was a long time member of the Yakima Odd Fellows Lodge.
He always maintained a positive attitude about life. He advised his family to set goals, be
positive in attitude and persevere. He always appreciated his growing family and looked
forward to the birthday parties and the holidays with them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Adelia of 64 years, his sister Lorene Kallen
and his brother Kenneth Kollen. He is survived by his son Gary (Patricia) Spencer of Yakima,
daughter Elaine (Michael) Ferri of Marysville and daughter Judith Bradford. Also
grandchildren Kevin (Jo), Keith (Mari) and Lori Spencer of Yakima, Tracie (Rick) Wurlitzer in
California, Trina (Chris) Wagenblast of Newcastle and Tiffany Gentry in New York. Step
Grandchildren Peggy (Harry) Williams, Brian (Judi) Bradford. He is also survived by 6 great
grandchildren and 3 step great grandchildren.
Memorial Service will be on Saturday September 21 at 11 am at Wesley United Methodist
church on 48th Ave and Chestnut.
