Harriet Ardis Dahl, 87 passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born January 27, 1927 in LaMoure County near Kulm, North Dakota to Gust Helmer (Elmer) Larson and Olga Victoria (Grundberg) Larson.
She graduated from Central Washington State College in 1949. At age 19 she started her teaching career in the Wapato School District and retired as a reading specialist for the West Valley School district in 1989.
She married Robert (Bob) B. Dahl on June 25, 1950 in Yakima, WA. She stayed at home while raising a Daughter and Son and was a 4-H leader while her children were growing up. During this time she also supervised the farm in West Valley where they grew apples for almost 50 years. The farm was sold in 2009 and she moved to a Condo where she once again nurtured the soil and grew beautiful flowers and tomatoes.
She was an active member of Central Lutheran Church, especially in the areas of education and outreach. She spent many years coordinating people to be greeters for the church services, making coffee and providing snacks for after the service. She always made sure to contact people who were there visiting and made them feel welcome.
In addition to her circle of lifetime church friends, she made many new friends throughout her life. She was an avid gardener and was a member of the Nature Artist Garden Club. She won many blue ribbons and special awards displaying her flowers at the Central Washington State Fair. She belonged to the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority and the retired teachers association. She and Bob were active members of the Wagon Wheelers Square Dance Club for many years.
She is survived by her sisters, LeNore Malm of Kulm, North Dakota, her twin sister Norma Smoke of Yakima along with her daughter Alice (Glen) Allison of Pasco and her son Brian (Melinda) Dahl of Kennewick and her 3 Grandchildren Douglas Allison of Pasco, Tiffanie Dahl of West Jordan, Utah and Brandon (Meredith) Dahl of Provo, Utah. She is preceded in death by her husband Robert in 1998, her parents, and her sister Edith.
The family would like to thank Margaret McClelland who became her driver when she could not, and then a cherished friend who provided much care for her that allowed her to stay in her home.
