

Germany on April 15, 1925 to Josef and Theresia Merten.
Helena met and married her husband, Charles Oliver, in Berlin during WWII. Charles was an
American soldier. The couple had their first son in Berlin and then immigrated to the U.S. by boat in
1948, arriving at Ellis Island and finally settling in Louisiana, MO. In 1959 the family moved to Yakima,
WA where she spent the rest of her life. In her later years, Helena enjoyed spending time at Rimrock
Lake, fishing, camping, and sitting by the fire. She was eventually dubbed "Mayor Helen" of Rimrock
Campground. Her number one priority was always her family; she loved being surrounded by her
grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Helena was preceded in death by her husband Charles Oliver, her mother and father, brother,
and three sisters.
Surviving family members to honor her life are her five children: Charles Wilmer (Butch) Oliver,
Franz Joseph (Peggy) Oliver, Claude Eugene Oliver, Theresa (Bruce) Ritter, and Stephanie Moody; six
grandchildren: Jennifer Melendez, Tamara (Clinton) Church, Erich Oliver, Shaina (Jerome) McCloud, Lindsey Moody and
Tasha Ritter; and four great-grandchildren: Daniel Melendez, Caleb Church, and Jordan and Alexis
Wedgeworth.
A rosary will be held at Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home at 6:30pm on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014. A celebration of life with graveside services will be held on her birthday, April 15, 2014.
In lieu of flowers doantions may bemade to the Memorial Foundation in care of Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home, 1010W. Yakima Ave., Yakima, WA.
The family especially wishes to thank the many care givers she had over the past few years.
