James Stephen Franck made his final journey home to be with the Lord and his family and friends that have preceded him in death, on the evening of Thursday November, 26th 2015 at Cottage in the Meadow in Yakima, WA. For surviving family and friends, Jimmy, best known as "Papa" to all of us, we take solace in knowing that you've also been greeted by your former canine buddy and pal, Zeus "the Moose", with a big wet slobber.
James (Jim) was born in Flasher, ND on October 4th, 1940 to his father and mother Joseph Franck and Bertha Bernhardt whom each have gone before him. Also, preceding him in death was his brother Joe Franck and Sister Pearl Hauser. Surviving him is his wife Barbara Franck, Daughter Dianna Horst and husband Eric, Daughter Tamyra Gagoush and husband Jim, Son Robert Franck and Jodi Ayers, Grandchildren Tasha Gagoush and Kevin Ball, Erianna Minter and husband Brian, Jamie Carbery and husband James,Kindra Doss and husband Kyle, Sydnee Franck and Kaitee Franck, Great Grandchildren Johnny Carbery, Kayden Doss and Adalynn Minter, Half-Sisters and Half-Brother Jackie, JoAnn, Julie, Josie, Penny and Tim and multiple Cousins, Nieces and Nephews.
Jim served the US Army as a Company Clerk from 1958 to 1961. On June 17th, 1961 he married the love of his life and his true rock through the years, Barbara Dell Franck, lovingly known to all family and friends as "Nana". Jim and Barbara settled in Yakima, WA to share their life and start their family. Jim worked at Yakima Hardware and the Noel Corporation, retiring from a career at Yakima County Beverage Company. Early in his career he loved to spend time with all of his friends at the local watering hole. Through the years he was an avid fisherman and took pleasure in taking his young family on several fishing adventures. He also enjoyed the occasional round of golf. He was always a fierce competitor on the fast-pitch fields in the early 80's during the summer months. He spent hours on small engine repair, including time as a grease monkey, fixing and maintaining his own vehicles until modern technology and computerized engines resigned him from grease under his nails. He took pleasure in working outdoors, whether it was doing yard work or chopping wood for the fire. He was always proud of maintaining his garden and growing something good to eat. He always had a joke up his sleeve and knew how to make us laugh and/or "blush". He always found comfort in his faith with the Catholic Church and frequently attended services at Holy Family.
Papa was extremely proud of his children and their accomplishments. Especially his grandchildren and his great grandchildren. He spent countless hours at his woodworking bench, as a labor of love, to create something special and unique for each of them.
Papa we love you and we will miss you, but we are extremely thankful that you are now truly home.
A Vigil Service will be held Thursday, December 3, 2015 at 7pm Keith & Keith Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, December 4th at 10:00 am at Holy Family Catholic Church, and Graveside Service will be Friday, December 4th at 1:30 pm at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers it was Papa's wish to have donations made to the American Cancer Society or to Cottage in the Meadow.
On behalf of the entire family, we want to give a special thanks to the staff and volunteers at Cottage in the Meadow for the great amount of love, comfort, dignity and care they provided, not only to Papa, but also to our family and friends during Papa's final days. Especially to Anna, Laura and David - proof that angels exist.
