Jay Maitlen passed away August 28, 2010. He was born in Ione WA on December 8, 1928. His family moved to the Spokane area, then Parker before he graduated from Wapato High in 1947 and WSU in 1951. He worked for the forest service before serving 2yrs in the Army during the Korean war. On August 23, 1953, Jay married Jean Giffer, his wife of 57 years. He worked as a chemist at the USDA lab in Yakima for 35 years, retiring in 1988.
Jay was active as a Cubmaster for his sons Pack, learned to fly from Charlie McAllister and loved to spend time in the outdoors fishing, hiking and camping with his family. He was preceded in death by son Gary, parents Joseph and Luella, sister Bonnie Nielsen and brother Gene.
Jay is survived by wife Jean, son Brian and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 11, 2010 at 10 am at Terrace Heights Memorial Park.
