John E. Russell

John Edgar Russell Jr. passed away peacefully at home on March 29, 2010 after a battle with liver cancer. He was born in Denison, Texas and moved to Yakima in 1950. John was in the first graduating class of A.C. Davis High School, (formerly YAKIMA HIGH) in 1958.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Lana J. Russell; sister, Irene Melton-Rugg (Bill Rugg); son, John E. Russell III (Lori Russell); daughter, LaRee D. Tillett (Bill Tillett); son, Brian E. Russell (Laura Russell); step-son, Kenneth Wheeler (Melissa Wheeler); 15 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 2 niece’s and 5 nephew’s.

John made friends everywhere he went. In his younger years he worked as a meat cutter for Safeway. Years later he established Estate Planning Services, dealing with insurance, estate planning and doing taxes for his clients.

John loved restoring old cars and helping people. John also took great joy in delivering flowers to his wife, daughter and many of his friends around town! Usually for no reason other than to see a big smile or make someone’s day better!

John had a huge heart and will be missed by many. Yakima has lost a true angel and positive influence. He will stay alive in the hearts of the many friends and family that have loved and supported him through the short 70 years that we were blessed to have him.
