Karen was born to Gale and Alice Curtis on September 25, 1967, in Yakima, WA. Growing up in Yakima, she pursued piano and choir and was active in church and youth group.
After graduating from Davis High School, she attended Seattle Pacific University to earn her bachelor’s degree in business management. Her initial exposure to the legal profession started from a part-time job she worked in college. Unexpectedly, this led to a 35-year long career. Throughout her career, her most challenging and rewarding position was her many years working for David Goodnight at Stoel Rives in Seattle. While at this law firm, she worked on many complex legal cases around the US and Europe. She also worked for several years at Amazon Legal and for the last 12 months in Yakima for Hawley Troxell Legal Services.
Karen loved life and loved her family. She received much joy in celebrating the people she loved. Planned weeks in advance, she made birthdays and Christmas amazing and memorable. Karen was a generous and giving person; outgoing and meticulous, she covered every detail. When a family member was ill, she was the first to respond with whatever she thought would help. Karen would sacrifice to help loved ones before she thought of helping herself. She loved spending time with her nephew and nieces, taking them on trips, experiencing fine restaurants, shopping and special nights in with crafts, baking and movies. Karen faithfully attended her nephew’s and niece’s piano recitals; swim meets and school programs. Family beach trips were always one of her favorites, spending time together around the campfire and flying kites. She beautifully and bountifully hosted Sunday family dinners. Throughout her life, she actively attended church, most recently a member of Christian Life Center in Yakima and previously attending Canyon Hills Community Church in Bothell.
Karen is survived by her parents, Gale and Alice Curtis, her brother Ken (Shauna) Curtis, her nephew John, and her nieces MacKenzie, Ella and Abigale. She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She was predeceased in death by her grandparents William and Helen Curtis, Lex and Marie Mutch, along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.
