Ken was born on Sept. 19, 1923 to Minnie and Charles Money. He was born in North Dakota and moved to Yakima at a young age where he lived the remainder of his life. At age 11 he began selling newspapers and firewood on the streets and subsequently became a firefighter. While raising his family, he worked in the Lemke Fruit Orchards and finished his career as a foreman for the Paul Dressel roofing business.
Ken proudly served as a Sergeant in the Army during WWII from 1943-1945. He served as a medic in France and Germany and never tired from sharing his memorabilia, medals, and war stories to all who would listen.
Upon returning from war, Ken married Thelma Worthington, built a house in Cottonwood Canyon, and raised their three children: Larry, Shirley and Karen.
Ken enjoyed a multitude of interests. He enjoyed sports, especially baseball and rarely missed a Monday night baseball game at Brookside or a subsequent trip to A&W for a root beer float. Most vacations were spent camping with the family; hiking, riding dirt bikes to Darland Mountain, or fishing at the Oregon beaches. He enjoyed gardening, reading, homemade ice cream, traveling, spoiling his many pets, and especially reminiscing and laughing with friends.
Upon the death of his wife Thelma Money in 1987, Ken married Joan Holmes in 1990.
Ken was a founding member of the Seventh Day Adventist church in Yakima and lived his life according to his Christian faith and his beliefs. He proudly maintained many friendships from his years as a youth and pathfinder leader and accepted many requests to share his love of the Lord at surrounding churches and the Camlou senior center. Ken not only provided spiritual guidance locally, but also participated and found much joy in building churches and providing services in Romania, Ecuador, and Mexico with SAGE, Senior Adventist Ministries.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, wife Thelma Money, and siblings Arlene Jackson, Ruth Williams and Melvin Money.
Ken is survived and will be sorely missed by his wife Joan Money, his three children: Larry Money, Shirley Gough (Adrian), and Karen Herr (Robert), sister Lucille Eastham, step-daughter Kaniesta Mandoza (Jose) and a multitude of beloved nieces, nephews, step grandchildren, cousins, and a host of friends.
