Larry Colpitts passed away unexpectedly on January 25th 2026. Larry was the youngest of three boys, born on a modest farm in Medford, Oregon to Robert (Bob) and Vivian Colpitts. The family moved to Yakima, WA shortly after and Larry grew up in the Yakima Valley and played every sport that his parents would allow. Basketball and Baseball were his favorites. He graduated from West Valley High School in 1972.
Upon graduation, Larry enrolled in the US Coast Guard and was stationed in Michigan. He loved to tell stories of the saves and rescues that he took part in during his time in the Coast Guard.
Larry returned to his family in Yakima, WA after the Coast Guard. He got married and had two daughters, Lindsey and Katie. Later on, he had a son, David. He enjoyed camping and fishing with his family in the early years. The majority of his work life was spent working at ESD 105 in the maintenance department. He retired from ESD in the early 2000’s.
Larry was an avid fan of both the Seahawks and the Seattle Mariners. He rarely missed a game. He also loved to play card games and always had a few magic card tricks up his sleeve when an audience was present. He was quite the jokester, lighthearted, and loved to play harmless practical jokes when an opportunity presented itself.
Most importantly, Larry was a devoted Christian throughout his life and put his faith in the Lord during difficult times. His family is so grateful for this, and we have immense peace in knowing that God’s timing is always perfect, even though we may not fully understand. “Trust in the Lord and lean not on your own understanding.” Proverbs 3: 5-6
Larry is survived by his mother, Vivian; his brother, Bobby; his children, Lindsey Christie (Scott), Katie Trammell (Dustin) & David Keeth; his grandchildren, Tanner, Madyson, Tatum, and Jackson; and his aunt, Patty Salter. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Bill and his father, Robert (Bob).
A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring for Larry.
