“Grandma Peaches” was born on June 11, 1938 in Tenino, WA. She and her twin sister (Lila Maxine Simmons Winter) were adopted by Claude and Alice Simmons and the family settled in the Lower Yakima Valley where her family farmed. Linda was educated in the Lower Valley and graduated from Toppenish High School class of 1956. Linda married Patrick Stump in June of 1956 and had 4 children.
Linda was known to her many neighbors as “the store.” Linda was an avid bowler and enjoyed many tournaments throughout the western states. She belonged to leagues in Toppenish, Sunnyside and Yakima at various times in her life. Linda enjoyed getting together with her family and did not miss many family reunions. She loved to garden and most everything thrived under her supervision. Her yard in Toppenish was bordered with rose bushes, and was a great pride to her. Linda loved to travel and made many trips to Alaska to visit her sister. The first trip was driving with her parents and 4 kids from Toppenish, WA to Palmer, AK on the Alcan. She would make this drive a few more times with family as her sister lived there until 2005. Linda enjoyed flying to Alaska and always commented on the spectacular views from the planes windows. Linda had many chances to travel throughout the United States to visit other family members and landmarks. She took many photos to document these adventures. She also collected and received many frogs as gifts in excess of over 200 and had a love for wind chimes.
Linda had various positions in the Valley and most recently was employed as security/crowd control at the fairgrounds and other venues in the county.
Linda is survived by her brother, Tim Simmons (Linda) of Goldendale, WA. She is also survived by her children, Vik Stump-Livingston of Seattle, Rick Stump of Yakima, David Stump (Mary Jo) of Tacoma and Randy Stump (Kathy) of Yakima. She was blessed with 3 grandchildren, Jason Stump (Tara), Ashley Covington (Danny), and Derek Stump (Sara), and 2 great grandchildren. Linda also has 6 nephews and various cousins along with the brother and sisters from the family she was adopted from; cousins Mike Winters (deceased), Colleen Crane, Dan Winters, Roger Winters and JoAnn Frodick.
Linda is preceded in death by her parents Claude and Alice Simmons; her sister, Lila Winter; nephew, Michael Winter; and many beloved grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Many special thanks to her neighbors for helping her in times of need.
