Although our hearts are sad, we are comforted knowing she is reunited with her three beloved sons who she has missed so dearly. Marian Louise (Mary Lou) (King) Rummel was born February 20, 1929 in Toppenish, WA, the youngest of four children to George and Katheryn (Flanagan) King. Mom grew up in Toppenish where she attended elementary school, and graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in Yakima in 1947.
Mom entered St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing in 1947 and graduated in 1950. Caring for people was Mom’s passion. It was while working at St. Elizabeth’s she met and cared for a handsome redhead.
Mom and Dad were married February 7, 1952 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Toppenish. They have resided in Yakima their entire married life. Together they have seven children and although Mom was very proud of her nursing degree, she felt her most important job was staying home to raise her children. Family was everything to Mom and her home was always filled with lots of family and dear friends.
Mom had a special way about her and was loved by everyone who met her. Mom loved her twelve grandchildren dearly and had a special bond with each one of them. Mom lived her faith every day. She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Cowiche for many years where she was very active in Church Council, Altar Society and taught Religious Education classes to both youth and adults.
She was preceded in death by her parents George and Katheryn, her sons Dick, Jim and Mike Rummel, her sisters Maxine King and Peggy Kleinbach and her brother Jack King. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Robert Rummel, her daughters Peggy (Brad) Tangeman, Joan (Eric) Vargas, Mary (Dave) Cook and Patty Myre. She also leaves behind her twelve grandchildren, Jimmy and Laura Tangeman, David, Andrew, Jeffrey and Tommy Vargas, Max Nick and Jack Picatti, Ryan Axtell, Megan and Matt Myre, as well as many special relatives and friends.
