Martha L. Caton, 91, of Yakima, died May 19, 2015 at Cottage in the Meadow. She was born in Napoleon, ND, on June 11, 1923, to John and Matilda Lachenmeier. After graduating high school she worked in the shipyards in Portland, OR during WWII. During this time she met a USN sailor, Allen L. Wisner. After the war ended they married and moved to Yakima, WA and had two children, Dennis and Dianne.
In 1967 she married Willard Caton. Willard had two daughters, Paula and Pam, who frequently visited and shared vacations with them.
Upon retirement from her bookkeping position at Del Monte in 1983, Martha and Willard enjoyed traveling the United States and ocean cruises. They had a “Snow Bird” home in Arizona and planned many trips around the Mariners spring training games; they were great fans!
Martha’s special interests included quilting and her loved ones were blessed with her beautiful handwork. Preparing dinners for her whole family was an event to which she looked forward. Sitting on her patio and enjoying her flowers while entertaining her great-grandchildren was her greatest joy.
Martha is survived by Willard Caton, her husband of 48 years, her son, Dennis (Verna) Wisner, and daughter, Dianne Wisner (Nick), of Seattle. Also surviving are five grandsons, Brandon Wisner, Ryan (Sara) Wisner and Mathieu Weiler of Yakima; John Weiler and Jordan (Rachele) Weiler of Seattle, and Pam Caton (David) Rasmussen of Benton City, WA. Also missing her are the lights of her life, her ten great-grandchildren, whom she dearly loved.
Martha was preceded in death by Paula Caton.
Mom, Grandma, Grandma-Great touched our hearts and souls in ways we will never forget.
A celebration of Martha’s life will be at 10 a.m. May 29 at the First Baptist Church in Yakima. Interment will follow at West Hills Memorial Park.
