Born on Oct 3, 1941 in Moundville MO, her family later moved to Yakima where she grew up and graduated from Davis High School. She married her husband Lonnie Brooks in 1962. Together they raised their four children on their farm in the Parker Heights area, living there until moving to Casa Grande.
In her younger years she was active with local women's groups and crafts. In later years she was an avid golfer and loved playing card games. Along with her husband she spent years traveling the country camping from coast to coast. She worked as a telephone operator, a Sears phone order operator, sewed sportswear at Sunset Sportswear, and for many years as a fruit packer at Roach fruit in Yakima. Her most important jobs and the ones she cherished most were Wife, Mother and Friend.
She is survived by her husband Lonnie Brooks, her brother Charles Martin, her children Dessa, Lewis, Troyce and Wade and many Grandchildren. For those who knew her, we were blessed to have this wonderful woman in our lives.
Though her time has come and the Lord has called her home, do not mourn our loss but instead let us celebrate the life she lived. As she would say, “I'm Fine.”
A visitation for Melba will be held Thursday, September 19, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Langevin El Paraiso Funeral Home, 1010 West Yakima Ave, Yakima, WA 98902. A funeral service will occur Friday, September 20, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Langevin El Paraiso Funeral Home.
