Our sweet, wonderful, amazing mom and gramma was taken from us on Thursday March 22nd and is now reunited with our dad in heaven. The great sadness we all feel is overshadowed by moms happiness, which is such a comfort to us all. There wasn't a day gone by that mom did not long to be with dad since his passing in 2013.
Mom was a classic farmers wife who wore many hats and wore them well. When thinking of moms cooking we were always sent off to school with a hot breakfast and lunch bags filled to the brim. There was always a hot lunch waiting for our dad everyday and always a big hot dinner for the family every night. Camping trips and family gatherings where a hit with mons fried chicken and potato salad. Yum !!!
Mom was a beautiful seamstress. We girls had so many clothes sewn by her, not to mention cheerleading outfits, prom dresses, doll clothes for our dolls and bridesmaid dresses for our weddings.
Devotion to her family covered everything from volunteering in school classrooms, attending sports activities, and camping with grandkids. Both mom and dad loved to take the motorhome and head down the Oregon Coast, sightseeing and beach combing.
Mom was born September 3, 1924 in Fielding, Utah to Bert and Clara Thomas. She was one of five children. The family lived in the Wapato area in the early 1940's. On April 3, 1945 mom married her high school sweetheart Harold. Together they had three daughters, Kathy, Carole and Kay. Down the road they were blessed with six grandchildren and later twelve great grandchildren.
Mom is survived by her three daughters: Kathy (Gary) Welton, Carole (Gary) Garrett and Kay (Erin) Stroh. Six grandchildren: Michelle (Bret) Britz, David (Meagan) Welton, Bryan (Terra) Garrett, Phillip Garrett, Ryan (Jennifer) Amos, Aaron Amos, Jason (Tina) Stroh and Lara Stroh. Twelve great grandchildren: Linnea, Brodie and Bryant Garrett, Maizy and Cadence Garrett, Bailey and Taylor Britz, Emily Welton, Jacob, Colby and Kaylee Amos and Benjamin Stroh. One sister Bobbi (Jerry) Bollen.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband Harold.
Keep the light on and the chicken warm mom cause we will all be there for dinner some day.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to her caregivers at Crescent Health Care in Yakima and in her last days at Cottage in the Meadow in Yakima.
