Nancy was born on June 7, 1943 in the tiny west Texas town of Muleshoe. She was the youngest of six siblings born to Leander 'Lee' and Verna (Baker) Hurst. The previously nomadic family relocated to Yakima in 1946 when Nancy was just three years old and set deep roots in the community that persist to this day. Nancy graduated from Davis High School, class of 1961.
After a brief early marriage and divorce, Nancy met the love of her life in 1969. Nancy married Edward Dale Johnson on June 13, 1970; A marriage that lasted 30 years until Ed's death in June 2000. They successfully blended their families and had one more child together.
Nancy spent her life dedicated to her four biological children, three step-children and her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. A true matriarch, family life revolved around 'Grammy' for all of her children and grandchildren. A truly open and forgiving soul, Nancy opened her heart and home to anyone and everyone. Certainly, nobody among her family or friends was unsure of her love for them.
Nancy enjoyed many hobbies including camping, fishing, bowling, gardening, cooking, crochet, sewing, knitting, and various crafts of all varieties. She and Ed had also become snowbirds before his death, traveling to Arizona every winter in their motorhome to enjoy the sunshine.
Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Samual Garland Hurst and Louis Newton Hurst, sisters Lola LaVelle Walbaum and Verna Lee Danielson, and son Steve Anghern.
