9-29-1913 to 2-22-2013
On February 22, 2013 Mrs. Regina workman departed this life to be with the Lord.
She was born in Leith, North Dakota. Her childhood years were spent on a farm in South Dakota.
On May 23, 1939 she married Orval Workman. They had four children, Ellen Malone of Tacoma, Ken Workman of Wapato. Carol Farmer of Puyallup, and Dale Workman of Colfax.
Orval and Regina enjoyed a wonderful marriage. Together they built a house in Selah and stated another one in Zillah on an orchard they owned. When Orval was taken early in 1965, she had learned enough carpentry skills that she completed the house herself.
Regina enjoyed raising livestock and especially liked cattle. At one time a local dairy man that they bought calves from, would give her calves that he thought would die because she very often nurtured them back to health. She was also a doctor for her family, patching up cuts, and attending their illnesses.
In 1968 she sold the ranch and moved into Yakima on No 55th Ave. She continued to pick fruit every year for extra income until she was 70 years old. She also ran a seamstress business out of her home. She did meticulous work and never had to advertise. She enjoyed visiting with her customers and those that she didn’t already know soon became friends also. She sewed beautiful patchwork quilts and for a while she taught a quilting class at the YWCA. She sewed until her declining vision forced her to quit at around 90 years old.
Regina attended church regularly at central Assembly of God in Yakima as long as her health allowed her to. Her faith was of the utmost importance in her life. She made many dear friends at her church.
When she became unable to live alone she moved into “Izzy’s”, an assisted living home where she spent the last few years of her life. One dear friend, Margaret Weaver, came to visit her every week. She was always looking forward to those visits.
Regina was preceded in death by her husband Orval in 1965. She is survived by 3 brothers, Jacob of Yakima, and Rudy and Chris of Colorado, also her four children, 6 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 28, 2013, from 4-8:00 p.m. at Keith & Keith Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held Friday, March 1, 2013, at 1:00 p.m.
