Rick C. Faringer, 78, peacefully passed away on June 28, 2014 after a short battle with brain cancer. He was born Donald Faringer on June 26, 1936 to Floyd Sr. & Helen (Lowry) Faringer at their home in Yakima. Born with a cleft palate and visual impairments, he was immediately taken to Seattle for care.
Growing up, separations from his family for surgeries gave him an independent streak. He lived his entire life in Yakima and graduated from Yakima High in 1955. Making no secret about his dislike for his name, in his 30’s he legally changed it. Because of his visual impairment, Rick couldn’t work. He lived with his parents and cared for his mother as she aged. He was endlessly fascinated by construction & demolition and always eager to help out if you needed a hole dug or wood stacked; provided you allowed him to do it at his own pace. Rick loved to ride his bicycle and over the years put 10,000+ miles on his 1960’s Schwinn cruiser, “David”. He had an amazing memory for dates, places and events, and never forgot to call loved ones on their birthdays. In his later years, he enjoyed YVCC baseball - walking to the field to catch the games.
Rick was pre-deceased by his parents, brothers Floyd Jr. and George, and sister Myrna Ramey. He is survived by his brother & sister-in-law, Norris & Alice, sister-in-law, Lorraine, and many nieces and nephews.
Inurnment will be at Terrace Heights Memorial Gardens. A private family service is planned.
