Surround by his family, Robert L. Torkelson, (Bob) 83, went to join his wife in the presence of his Lord on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 in Yakima, WA. He was born May 30, 1929 in Seattle, WA to Peter and Hedevig Torkelson. Robert, a first generation born American citizen, and the youngest of 3 children, grew up in Lynnwood, (Alderwood Manner), WA. From age 7, Robert was raised by his widowed mother who taught him his Christian values, which he carried throughout his life.
Robert graduated from Edmonds High School in 1948. One of his first jobs was working for the Seattle Ice Co. He then served his country as a Navy Seabee during the Korean War in the Philippines. Returning to Seattle, he had several jobs, including welding in the shipyard, work for U.S. Plywood Co. and settling into a career as a carpenter for over 50 yrs., specializing as a quality finish-trim carpenter.
On Dec. 8, 1962, Robert married the love of his life, Mollie. His happiest years were spent raising 5 children in the rural farm area of Lake Stevens and tending a 1 ½ acre vegetable garden, raising enough to share with neighbors and friends.
In 1994, he moved to Selah, WA. Robert continued his passion for gardening and carpentry until he retired. Above all, he will be remembered for his kind heart and helpful spirit. He would do anything for anyone. His devotion to his wife and family will never be forgotten.
He is survived by his 5 children, Sharron (Jim), Joe (Donna), Colleen (Dave), Charlotte (Steve), Carl (Candi); 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 yrs., Mollie, brother and sister.
