Sergio Valdez

Sergio Valdez, 28, of Yakima, WA, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 11, 2025, in his home. Born in Toppenish, WA, and raised in Yakima, Sergio was a beloved son, brother, uncle and friend whose presence lit up every room he entered. Sergio was currently pursuing his dream at Central Washington University, enrolled in the Music Education program with the goal of becoming a music teacher. Music wasn’t just his passion—it was his purpose.

He believed deeply in the power of the arts to change lives, and he dedicated himself fully to that mission. A proud graduate of Davis High School, Sergio returned there often—not out of obligation, but out of love. His presence brought joy, creativity, and inspiration to everyone he worked with. For many students, he wasn’t just a mentor—he was family. To those who knew him best, Sergio was the kind of friend everyone hopes to have in their life. He was selfless, caring, and always ready to lend a hand or a listening ear. His laugh was infectious—it could fill a room and lift the spirits of everyone in it. Sergio had a rare gift of making people feel seen and loved, and anyone who met him couldn’t help but be drawn to his warmth, kindness, and incredible heart. He loved fiercely and lived fully, and he leaves behind a deep and lasting impact on all who were lucky enough to call him a friend.

Sergio is survived by his parents, Baldomero and Maria Del Socorro Valdez; his brother and sister-in-law, Jorge and Lupe Valdez; and his sisters, Maria Del Rosario Valdez and Maria Isabel Valdez. He is preceded in death by his siblings, Baldomero “Momo” Valdez, Rafaela Valdez, and Jose Valdez.

Viewing will be held Thursday, May 15, from 4–8 PM at Keith and Keith Funeral Home. A funeral service will take place Friday, May 16, at 11 AM at Grace of Christ Presbyterian Church, followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery and a Celebration of Life at the church.

A GoFundMe has been created in his name to support his family during this difficult time. Creía profundamente en el poder de las artes para cambiar vidas y se dedicó plenamente a esa misión. Sergio, un orgulloso graduado de Davis High School, regresaba allí con frecuencia, no por obligación, sino por amor. Su presencia trajo alegría, creatividad e inspiración a todas las personas con las que trabajó. Para muchos estudiantes, él no era sólo un mentor: era una familia. Para quienes lo conocieron mejor, Sergio era el tipo de amigo que todos esperan tener en su vida. Era desinteresado, afectuoso y siempre dispuesto a echar una mano o escuchar. Su risa era contagiosa: podía llenar una habitación y levantar el ánimo de todos los que estaban allí. Sergio tenía el raro don de hacer que las personas se sintieran vistas y amadas, y cualquiera que lo conociera no podía evitar sentirse atraído por su calidez, amabilidad e increíble corazón. Amaba ferozmente y vivía plenamente, y deja un impacto profundo y duradero en todos los que tuvieron la suerte de considerarlo amigo.

A Sergio le sobreviven sus padres, Baldomero y María Del Socorro Valdez; su hermano y cuñada, Jorge y Lupe Valdez; y sus hermanas, María Del Rosario Valdez y María Isabel Valdez. Le precedieron en la muerte sus hermanos, Baldomero “Momo” Valdez, Rafaela Valdez y José Valdez.

El velorio se llevará a cabo el jueves 15 de mayo de 4 a 8 p. m. en Keith and Keith Funeral Home. Se llevará a cabo un funeral el viernes 16 de mayo a las 11 a.m. en la Iglesia Grace of Christ Presbyterian, seguido del entierro en el Cementerio Calvary y una Celebración de la Vida en la iglesia.
