It is with profound sadness that the family of Shirley Ann (Mathews) Jinkins announce her peaceful passing on October 20, 2019, at the age of 79 years, just 2 weeks shy of her 80th birthday. She was born November 2, 1939 in Glenwood, Iowa, the 3rd child of Harry Lee and Flora Elizabeth (Hurst) Mathews. She will be lovingly remembered by her brother, Harold Mathews, of Salt Lake City, UT and her sister, Carol Mangum (Derrell) of Federal Way, WA.
As a teenager, Shirley played the accordion. She also loved to crochet, cross stitch, quilt and do folk art painting. Shirley loved dogs and had several during her life. She and Jack also liked cooking and camping.
Shirley lived most of her life in Washington. She and her husband Jack were married on May 4, 1957 at her parents’ home in Yakima. Jack and Shirley were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Shirley was also the bookkeeper at a family business owned by her and Jack: Jinkins Dental Lab.
Shirley was predeceased by her loving husband of 57 years, Jack, and by her parents. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Bob Mathews of Yakima and Jack Mathews of the Tri-Cities.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff of Brookdale Living for their care and compassion for the last 3 years of her life. And a special heartfelt thanks are sent to Ron and Linda Hatfield of Selah for numerous years of care, friendship and love offered to Jack and Shirley.
Interment will be at the Terrace Heights Memorial Park to be with her husband Jack at Serenity Niche. Shirley was born with a hearing impairment. The family requests memorial donations be made to the National Association of the Deaf.
