

He came to Yakima from Brownwood, TX at the age of 16 to work in Tieton. He joined the U.S. Marines on December 28, 1943 until March 28, 1946. He was very proud to have been there when the flag was raised on IwoJima. When he returned home he went to work on his family apple ranch.
Steele married Helen Wallace on October 12, 1947 they were blessed with 3 daughters, Peggy Leonard of Yakima, Vicki Lyden (Dave) of Yakima and Nancy Primeaux (Al) of Myrtle Beach, SC; He had 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren who were the love of his life and they knew it!
Surviving Steele is his wife, his 3 daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Jessie Shannon and Sandy Shannon. Preceding him in death were his parents, Bill & Bracken Shannon, his siblings, Jude (Dusty) Maher, J.D. (Jerry) Shannon, Herbert Shannon and Jerry Shannon.
