

Sue Hunt MacMichael, age 101 years old, died at Virginia Mason Memorial Hospital in Yakima on November 4, 2017. She was born on July 27, 1916 in Liberty, Missouri to Mary Garth Finley and Snowden Morris Hunt. She also lived in Oklahoma City, Glendale, San Francisco and Palo Alto, California where she raised her children.
She graduated from Glendale High School and attended University of Southern California. She married William Cullenward and after tragically losing her firstborn, Ann Cullenward, she had daughters Kathleen and Barbara. She later married Ralph MacMichael and had a son, Gregg, and daughter Julie. In 1971 when her youngest child left home for college in Colorado, she moved to Honolulu, Hawaii where she lived for 27 years. She established a sales representative business featuring boutique gift items, Crabtree and Evelyn products and various greeting card lines.
In 1999, Sue retired and moved back to Palo Alto where she renewed old friendships and made new friends. She volunteered to teach English as a second language several hours a week. Sue enjoyed traveling, especially on trains, which she did in Europe, Canada and the United States. She loved ballroom dancing, going to Dixieland Jazz Festivals and she was an avid reader. She belonged to the GNO book group in Yakima. She played cribbage and gin rummy, worked crossword puzzles, bingo and loved to sew and knit. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed making memorable meals for her family. Sue moved to Yakima, Washington in 2005 to be near her youngest daughter, Julie Harris. She joined the ballroom dancers at the Harmon Senior Center where she met Robert Speer in 2006, and they became beloved companions until her death. Sue was the oldest participant in the Memorial Follies in both 2006 and 2008.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, her only sibling, brother Snowden Morris Hunt, Jr., and daughter Ann. She is survived by three daughters, Kathleen MacMichael (Ron Roth) of Ashland, Oregon, Barbara MacMichael Tomlinson (George Lipsitz) of Santa Barbara and Aptos, California and Julie MacMichael Harris (Will Harris) of Yakima, and a son, Gregg MacMichael (Linda Alsweet MacMichael) of Chico, California. She had four grandchildren, Matthew Tomlinson (Lisa Choy) of San Francisco, California, Kerry Tomlinson (Patrick Miller) of Portland, Oregon, Alicia Harris of Malibu, California and Evan Harris of Seattle, Washington. She also had five great grandchildren, Becky, Emily and Kevin Tomlinson and Coen and Joel Miller.

There will be a memorial service at Rainier Memorial Center on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children in care of Keith & Keith Funeral Home.
