Verna Marie Coleman

Verna Marie Coleman passed away February 4, 2019. Verna was born in Chilliwack, British Columbia on November 27, 1933. She moved to Yakima in the early 1960s where she met the love of her life, Albert R. “Sonny” Coleman, and they married in June of 1961. Early in life she was a supervisor at Bailey Manufacturing Company. She had a long career as a line supervisor at Snokist Fruit Packing working both in apples and in cherries. She and Sonny would often make ends meet by working two jobs supporting the fruit and hop harvest around the valley.

To simply know her was a blessing; when she spoke, you listened. Together, she and Sonny took every chance to be with close family and friends. Her door was always open to those from all walks of life, and they welcomed countless foster children into their home throughout the years. She enjoyed going to bingo, finding treasures at yard sales and second hand stores, camping, fishing, hosting family reunions, crafting, and being life-long members of the Yakima County Sheriff’s Posse.

She is preceded in death by Albert “Sonny,” her youngest son John, three sisters, Eve, Winnie, and Vera, brother Ronald, brother-in-law Bob, and daughter-in-law Rhonda.

She is survived by her sons William “Billy,” and Albert (Cindy); sister-in-law Dolores; daughters-in-law Lou Anne and Pamela; foster children Deidra, Keisha, and Deion; grandchildren: Tara (Jack), Dina (Daniel), Kari (Patrick), Ryan, John (Shawna), Cody (Tesia), Rory, Michelle, and Denise (Junior); great grandchildren: Rachel, Brittany (Scott), Garrett, Johnathan, Eathan, Jayde, Mackenzie, Alexis, Kasen, Caige, Ashleigh, and Jayson; and great-great grandchildren: Cody, Mason, Giovanni, Gwenabelle, and Avirlynn. She is remembered by countless nieces and nephews, and those who may not have been a relation but still called her Mom, Auntie or Grandma.

Viewing will be at Keith and Keith from 4 pm - 8 pm Monday, February 11, 2019. Services will be Tuesday, February 12, 2019 beginning at 11 am, at Rainier Memorial Chapel in Terrace Heights, followed by a graveside service at Terrace Heights Memorial Park.
