

William “Bill” Maurice Guthrie Sr., 82, passed away on April 15, 2017 in Yakima, WA. from advanced Alzheimer dementia. He was born on May 15, 1934 in Fairgrove, MO to Lewis W. and Josephine L. (Jacoby) Guthrie.
Bill graduated from Yakima High School in 1953; then served for two years in the U.S. Navy. He married Helen Campbell on February 8, 1956 in Yakima, WA. Together they raised a son Bill Jr. and a daughter Cherl. They divorced in 1980.
After military service, he joined the Carpenters Union Local #770 and made his livelihood as a carpenter. He also raised apples and pears on 10 acres in Selah from 1970 to 1980. After retiring in 1996, he volunteered delivering Meals on Wheels and building handicap ramps through Catholic Family Services.
He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, working on automobiles, and spending time with family. He will be remembered by his laugh, and as fun loving, helpful and kind to strangers, a hard worker, stubborn, and good provider for his family.
He is survived by his daughter Cherl (Lynn) Kuehn, son Bill Jr., brother Wayne Guthrie, three grandchildren: Casey Millsap, Kipp (Ellen) Millsap, Kayli (Dan) Gall; two great grandchildren: Kaydin Millsap-Kennedy and Reya Gall; and ex-wife Helen (Campbell) Kester. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters (Shirley and Evelina), five nephews: Matthew Guthrie, Russell Campbell, Lonnie Olson, Mike Olson, and Jeff Olson; son in law Russell Harper; companion Alice Blizard.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 24, 2017 at Rainier Memorial Center with burial to follow at Terrace Heights Memorial Park.
