Cumberland – Claudia Jean “Cookie” Lowell, 69, of Cumberland, died unexpectedly on Sunday August 2, 2015 in Standish with her husband by her side. She was born on July 11, 1946, in Portland, a daughter of Ann (Minkowsky) and Arthur Pratt. She grew up in Portland and graduated from Deering High School.
Cookie first worked at Healthtex; with the arrival of her three children she established an in-home daycare, capitalizing on her joy of life and natural playfulness – a trait that followed with her grandchildren whom she readily encouraged and supported. In later years, she was self-employed providing janitorial services for loyal customers in Cumberland, North Yarmouth, and Portland.
Cookie enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and was a member of the Cumberland/North Yarmouth Garden Club. An avid reader, she also looked forward to her monthly book club gatherings. She was a member of the Woodford Women’s Club and bowled with her team. She delighted in playing cards and spending summers at the Camp on Sebago Lake with family and friends. Cookie was also a longtime member of the Cumberland Congregational Church.
Cookie surrounded herself with the people she loved by entertaining and cooking delicious meals. She will be remembered for her energy, vibrancy, strength, and willingness to always help others in need.
She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Richard L. Lowell of Cumberland; her three children: Heidi Maliski and her husband William and their children: Amber, Kayla and Abby of North Carolina; Todd Hanlon and his wife Judy and their children: Jackson and Pierce of Pennsylvania; Holly Lallemand and her husband Jeff and their children: Charlotte, Alex and Taylor of Falmouth; her three great-grandchildren: Landon, Victoria and Nola; her two step-children: Joyce Perrey and her husband Tom and their daughter Hilary of Westbrook; Jeffrey Lowell and his wife Kim and their son Michael of Windham; her brother Bruce Pratt and his wife Maureen of Pennsylvania; her sister Judy Hill of Scarborough; as well as a large extended family. Cookie was predeceased by her parents and by her brother-in-law, Raymond Hill.
A time of gathering and celebration will take place on Thursday, August 6 from 5 – 7 PM at Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 7 at 11 AM at Cumberland Congregational Church, 282 Main Street, Cumberland with a reception following in the church hall.
