Donna Hill Lee passed away in her sleep on October 18th at 85 years old. She is survived by her only child Dana K. Lee and his family, and by her loving life-partner, Frank C. Mower, with whom she enjoyed 44 beautiful years together. She was born in Hollis Center to Dexter Hill Sr. and Perpetua Hill of Saco. She is further survived by her two siblings, Linda Mitchell and Dexter Hill, and their families. “I have never known anyone so giving and loving, and yet so vulnerable, as my beloved Mother,” her son reflected.
Donna earned a Master’s degree in Education and taught many hundreds of children over her 38 years of teaching for Falmouth. A supervisor reflected that “Donna’s organizational skills were legendary, as was her vast repertoire of activities, methods and materials from which to draw lessons.” One student reminisced that students could not help but be engaged in Mrs. Lee’s lessons - her reputation for nonjudgmental assistance was well-known in the high school and indeed, throughout the Town of Falmouth.” A colleague of hers stated, “She had the gift of finding something enjoyable about the people with whom she comes into contact. Be it staff, parents or children, her relationships with students and families were often cited as the single most important factor in leading some hard-to-reach students to eventual graduation.” Donna also served as a Guidance Counselor, Cheerleading Coach and Professional Development Trainer, consultant and student tutor for Falmouth.
After retirement, she became a certified Educational Consultant and taught other teachers about children's varying learning styles, all across Maine. She was also an active, highly-valued member of the “Maine Support Network of Special Educators Advisory Team.”
Donna was a very active member of the Falmouth Lions Club since 1988, serving on the Board of Directors, and organizing many charitable events. One Lion who worked closely with Donna said, Donna was the driving force behind the Silent Auction, organizing donations from more than 100 local businesses … a stellar member of the Lion’s Club for many years.”
Donna and Frank especially enjoyed their time travelling to many islands and always making many new friends through her fun, friendly, and accepting demeanor. They shared many close friends and were often at the center of gatherings, regaling people with her clever wit and stories of their many adventures.
Please join us on Sunday, October 30 at Lindquist Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Ln. in Yarmouth, to celebrate her remarkable life between 10 am and Noon or between 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Good Shepherd Food Bank of Portland.
