Dolly has always been a kind and generous person. She held connections of the heart dearly; ready to listen openly with acceptance and support. She saw the world through the eyes of an artist seeing the beauty of the landscape. She loved color and design and was always creating in many forms.
Dolly Fitts was born August 19, 1923 in York, Maine to Perley I. Fitts and Marguerite Marden Fitts. She grew up with her sister Sylvia and brother Dick at the Fitts Poultry Farm in Durham. In the summer months her family visited her grandparents at York Beach where Dolly developed a love for the ocean; exploring tide pools and body surfing at the beach. She graduated from Dover High School and then UNH with a BS in Home Economics and Chemistry in 1945 and was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority.
Dolly married in 1946 and after living in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Detroit, Michigan, and Bourne, Massachusetts, settled in Falmouth, Maine in 1953. After her children finished high school she began a new career at Maine Savings Bank in 1972 until she retired. She was an active member and volunteer at the Falmouth Congregational Church, the Falmouth Health Council and Cumberland County Medical Auxiliary, as well as a former docent at Portland Museum of Art. Her interests included family and friends, church, gardening, art, bridge, reading and activities at the Yarmouth Y.
Dolly is survived by her three children: Becky Pease and her husband Sam, Chris
Baldwin and her partner Eric Anderson, and Chuck Baldwin and his wife Deirdra; her
four grandchildren: Graham Hopkins, Amanda Hopkins, Dan Pease, and Alicia Pease;
two great-grandchildren: Evan Kilburn and Marvin Granados; her sister Sylvia Getchell
and her husband the late L. Forbes Getchell; her brother Richard Fitts and his wife
Ginny; also many beloved nieces and nephews.
