

Yarmouth - Passed away peacefully surrounded by his children early Sunday, July 6th, at the age of 81. Ed was the son of Sarah G. and Edward M. Molloy and attended public schools in Fairfield, CT. He graduated from Yale University where he was a star quarterback from 1952-54 and still holds various football records. He attended Yale through the NROTC and following graduation served four years in the U.S. Navy before retiring as a LTJG. Ed also received his Master’s Degree in business at the Wharton Business School.
Ed moved to Portland with his family in 1967 and was a resident of Portland and Yarmouth. He had a successful career in life insurance and real estate sales, and spent his later years working at LL Bean until retiring in 2006.
His lifetime interest in sports continued with Little League coaching and umpiring, enjoyment of tennis and golf. He was also a regular member of the YMCA.
Ed spent a lifetime volunteering in the community including the United Way, Junior Achievement, Habitat for Humanity, Portland Symphony and St. Elizabeth’s Child Development Center. In later years he volunteered at the Reiche Community School, YMCA daycare, the Portland Public Library, Literacy Volunteers of America, Meals on Wheels and was a dedicated blood donor to the Red Cross.
Ed is survived by his sisters Sally Williams & Ann Carey; his former wife Sally McGonagle; their five children: Mary Tawa & husband Greg; Danny Molloy; Monica Sweeney & husband Pat; Catherine Vernier & husband Jim; Pete Molloy & wife Lisa; his eight grandchildren: Keegan, Zoe & Elena Tawa; Allyson Molloy; Patrick & Sarah Sweeney; Jack & Maya Molloy.
We will always remember Dad for his great smile, hearty laugh & kind nature, and his intellectual curiosity. Dad, you could always be counted on for your love & support and we will miss you every day.
A service in celebration of Ed will take place on Sunday July 13th from 1-3 PM with tributes beginning at 3 PM at Lindquist Funeral, One Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth.
