

George Allen Dressel, Jr., 56, of Cumberland, loving husband of Karen Ignatowicz Dressel died peacefully on November 3, 2011 at Gosnell Memorial House. He was born on December 22, 1954 in Springfield, MA, the son of George and the late Maureen (Clarke) Dressel. George was a longtime faithful communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Yarmouth. He attended Westfield High School and Westbrook College School of Nursing. He proudly served in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division from 1973-1977. George volunteered at Casco Bay Youth Hockey Association, serving on the Board of Directors for several years; he was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Flyers (the Broad Street Bullies).
Besides his devoted wife of 27 years, he will be dearly missed by his children; daughter, Bridget and son, Samuel, both of Cumberland. George also leaves his father of Deland, FL, a sister, Lori of Freeport and brother Jeffrey of Ventura, CA as well as a sister in law Janice Daneault and her daughters Kathryn and Alyssa of East Lyme, CT. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his best lifelong friend, William Ferriera and his wife, Susan of Agawam, MA. George was predeceased by a sister, Sandy.
A very special thank you to Dr. Kurt Ebrahim and his cohorts, Missy and DeeDee at the Maine Center for Cancer Medicine for the compassion and care shown to George and his family during his illness.
There will be no calling hours.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at Sacred Heart Church 326 Main St. Yarmouth.
Interment with military honors will immediately follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Yarmouth.
