Joan Betty Willmott Stock

Gray – Joan Betty Stock passed away after a year of declining health on Friday January 28, 2011 at Clover Manor in Auburn. The only child of Francis Herbert Willmott and Edith (Singer) Willmott, she was born in Bournemouth, England on March 12, 1927. In 1947, at the age of 20, Joan left England traveling by ship on the Acquitania to Halifax, N.S. Canada. She continued on to Portland, Maine where she met and later married Frank Stock on February 11, 1950. Together, they had three daughters. They were married for 48 years before her husband’s passing in 1998.

Joan worked many years at Pratt Abbott in Portland and the Portland Public Library. Her greatest interests were gardening, dogs and enjoying her pool in the summer. Joan loved the ocean, reading and traveling. She returned to England frequently throughout her life to visit her beloved cousin, Geoff Kellaway, and her best friend, Pat.

Joan is survived by her three daughters: Gail Mitchell and her husband Mark of Barrington, NH; Catherine Stock of Westbrook, ME; Carol Lemieux and her husband Ron of Cumberland, ME; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and her cherished golden retriever, Buster.

The family would like to thank the staff at Clover Manor for their care and compassion to Joan, treating her and our family with much love.

A memorial service will be held on Friday February 4, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth, ME 04096 with Rev. Philip Shearman officiating.
