FALMOUTH, MAINE – Leroy A. Graham, 80, of Falmouth, Maine (formerly of Windham, ME and Springfield, VT) died peacefully on January 23, 2019. He was the husband of Judith Cheever Graham.
Leroy Arthur Graham was born November 9, 1938 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, the son of Harold and Evelyn (Lockwood) Graham. He attended Springfield schools and graduated from Springfield High School in 1957. It was in the Springfield schools that Leroy met the love of his life, his wife Judy Graham and from that early beginning they forged a wonderful life together. They married on June 28, 1958 and lived variously in Springfield, Chester Depot, and Chapin, South Carolina, finally settling in Maine, first in Windham near the shores of Sebago Lake, and more recently in Falmouth.
A man of many talents, Leroy applied himself throughout his life at different times as a farmer, a milk man, an insurance agent, boat salesman at Osbourne's Marine in Sunapee NH, and for 54 years as a cutter designer and tool salesman for Lovejoy Tool Company, headquartered in Springfield, VT. At the height of his career, Leroy capably covered a territory ranging from the Carolinas to northern Maine. He loved his work and the many relationships and friendships he made during his travels.
His enjoyment of his work and travels was exceeded by his devotion to and love for his wife Judy and their four children. Leroy took great pride in the accomplishments of his children, and was ready to share a story about his children, or his cats, to any willing listener during his daily trips for coffee and a donut to his local Tim Horton’s or Dunkin Donuts. He was an avid sports fan and outdoorsman, finding enjoyment in boating, snowmobiling, hunting, fishing and golf. His love of the Boston area sports teams was evident with his ever-present Boston Bruins hat, and his season tickets to the Portland Pirates. It was hard to miss Leroy's booming voice at the Pirates games.
Leroy Graham is survived by Judy, his loving wife of 60 years and companion of 67 years, and his four children: David (Lonnie) Graham of Western Springs, Illinois; Diane Griffin (David) of Fairfield, Connecticut; Susan LaBelle (Kirk) of Leawood, Kansas; and Nathan (Heidi) Graham of North Yarmouth, Maine, as well as by his 7 grandchildren (Jennifer Kern (husband Jack), Tracey Llewellyn (husband John), Nicholas Zabek (wife Caitlin), Emily LaBelle, Joseph LaBelle, Kaitlyn Graham, and Andrew Graham; 2 step-grandchildren (Hailey Griffin and Julia Griffin); and 4 great grandchildren (Colten Kern, Weston Llewellyn, Lucas Zabek, and Zoe Zabek), as well as his brother Daniel Graham of Brooksville, Florida, his brothers-in-law Warren Cheever of Yarmouth, Maine and Robert Cheever of Conway, South Carolina, and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Leroy’s life will be held at the North Windham Union Church, 723 Roosevelt Trail, Windham, Maine on Monday, January 28, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. A private spring 2019 burial is planned. There are no calling hours.
