

Portland, ME---Lillian “Lil” M. (Ames) Nevers, 89, of Yarmouth, walked into the arms of Jesus, her Savior, on February 28, 2026 after a brief illness. She was born in Portland, ME on November 21, 1936, a daughter of Linnie M. (Cole) Ames and Cecil M. Ames.
Lillian participated in several organizations as a young girl. She left school at a young age to work at the clothespin factory located in South Portland. She became pen pals with Richard (Dick) Nevers at the age of 14 while he was in the U.S. Navy. They fell in love, and were married one month after her 17th birthday on December 12, 1953, and had five children. They were married for 54 years until her beloved husband passed on April 7, 2008 after a long illness.
Lillian loved to knit hats, mittens, and baby sweater sets for everyone. She also loved doing jigsaw puzzles, word searches, and telling stories.
Lillian will be remembered for her great love and faith in Jesus Christ. She was a lifelong member of the Lighthouse Christian Center in Westbrook, ME where she served as a Sunday School teacher, nursery care member, and preparer of the Communion table on Communion Sundays. Her faith was an inspiration to others and to her family as well.
Her love of others not only showed itself in her compassion and kindness of heart but also in living life with integrity and pride when doing for others in whatever was called for. She prayed without ceasing for everyone and anyone who had a need.
She was predeceased by her father, Cecil M. Ames and mother, Linnie Ames Jacobs, her brothers Arthur, Charles, Cecil, and Gerald Ames.
Lillian is survived by her five children: Nancy (Nevers) Swett and husband Steve of Yarmouth and their four children and eleven grandchildren, Rick Nevers of Yarmouth and his three children and four grandchildren, Terry (Nevers) Palmer and husband Mark of Presque Isle and their three children and eight grandchildren and two foster grandchildren, Jeff Nevers and wife Connie of Yarmouth and their four stepchildren and one grandchild, and Amy (Nevers) Dolloff and husband Tod of Naples and their three children and ten grandchildren.
Her surviving sibling is Sharon Byrnes of Falmouth, with many surviving nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are invited to a Time of Visitation Friday March 6, 2026 @ 10 AM followed by her Memorial Service @ 11 AM at the Lighthouse Christian Center, 636 Spring Street, Westbrook, ME. Burial at Brooklawn Memorial Park in Portland will be private. All are welcome to Lil's celebration of Life reception on March 6, 2026 @ 1:30 PM at Lighthouse Christian Center.
