Marguerite Joan Pollock, known as Marge to family and friends passed away peacefully on August 24, 2022 just shy of her 94th birthday. She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on November 11, 1928, the daughter of Rev. William W. Ridgeway Sr., an Episcopalian priest, and Sybil I. (Jewers) Ridgeway, a teacher from Maine. Marge grew up in Camden, New Jersey along with her three siblings Sybil, William and Dorothea. She went to secretarial school to learn shorthand and later worked for a mortgage company prior to her marriage. When she first started dating, her father would always wait up for her.
However, he stopped this practice when she met and began dating Earl Pollock Sr. The couple were married on Sept 17, 1955. They lived in a third floor apartment in Pennsauken, NJ and soon had three children: Shirley, Earl Lee Jr. and Bill. Outgrowing the apartment, they moved their family to the suburb of Maple Shade where another son, Scott was born. After the death of her father, Marge's mother moved to Falmouth, Maine. Marge and Earle visited every Fourth of July and Christmas. Falling in love with Maine, they decided to move their family there as well. They bought a small farm in North Pownal and soon were blessed with four daughters: Ruth, Alice, Bonnie, and Patti. Marge worked at home for Downeast Novelties while raising her eight children. She later went to work for L.L. Bean until her retirement in 1986. In 1985 she lost her loving husband of thirty years. Three years later, she lost her daughter Alice. She then returned to L.L. Bean as a seasonal employee.
Marge loved doing crafts including sewing, painting and knitting. She made gorgeous dresses and wonderful Halloween costumes for her children. Marge also enjoyed writing and wrote a number of children's stories. They were not published but enjoyed by her children. Her cats were an important part of her life. In addition, Marge loved watching and feeding the birds. The church and her faith remained strong throughout her life. The family attended the North Pownal United Methodist Church and it was joked that the Pollock family took up half the church. Marge was a member of the North Pownal Getaways women's group and often worked on crafts for their Christmas fair. Later in life she was a faithful volunteer at the food pantry run by the church.
She is survived by seven of her children: Shirley Jackson (Rick), Lee Pollock (Cindy), Bill Pollock (Pat), Scott Pollock (Becky), Ruth Bennett (Glen), Bonnie Mosier (Jack), and youngest daughter Patti. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Her loving and generous personality will be greatly missed.
Family and friends are invited to visiting hours at Lindquist Funeral home Weds. August 31, 2022 from 6-8 PM. Funeral services will take place Thursday Sept. 1st. at 11 AM. at North Pownal United Methodist Church with burial at Elmwood Cemetery at 12 PM.
