Born July 2, 1942 in Boston, Massachusetts, Lynne was the daughter of the late Herbert Leroy Achorn and Joan Dorr Achorn of Newton Mass. She grew up in Newton Highlands, with her siblings Herbert Achorn (deceased, Plymouth, MA), Carolyn DeCoste (deceased, Milford, MA), and Dayle Daley (Northfield, New Hampshire). Lynne graduated from Newton High School, went on to earn a nursing degree, and later a bachelors degree from Seattle Pacific University.
She married Ensign Michael (Mike) Alan Murray of Peaks Island, Maine in Aug. of 1964. They wed at Saint Christopher Parish on Peaks Island Maine. As a Navy wife, Lynne spent the next 26 years moving from place-to-place, a role she often relished, but occasionally disliked, especially when Mike was out to sea. Along the way, they had four children; Joan, Jennifer, Michael, and Rebecca. Regardless of location, Lynne assimilated with a smile and a positive attitude—from getting involved with the schools, girl scouts, craft groups, or fund raisers- to painting local scenes and bartering for blankets in Tijuana.
Following Navy retirement in 1990, Lynne and Mike returned to Maine, settling in Yarmouth. Lynne worked as substitute teacher and then took a position teaching children with learning challenges at Longfellow School in Brunswick. She was active with Yarmouth Newcomers and a member of Sacred Heart Church in Yarmouth. She loved swimming at the YMCA, playing bridge with friends, and world travel. Lynne cherished her family and never missed a gathering. She loved spending time on Peaks Island, especially when it included family and/or her Peaks Island friends.
Lynne is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, her daughters Joan Murray Nelson (Yarmouth), Jennifer Murray Dupuis (Gray), Rebecca Murray Meehan (North Yarmouth), and her son Michael Murray Jr. (Yarmouth), eleven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. She is remembered by family and friends as a positive and caring person of great courage, and someone who was never short of an opinion or the last word. Her husband will miss her smile, comforting presence, and friendship. Her children will miss her silliness, encouragement, and sound advice.
