Yarmouth –Marion passed away peacefully at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough on Sunday December 6, 2015 after a brief illness. Marion Ethelyn Seabury was born on May 22, 1915 on the family farm in Yarmouth, Maine. She was the second daughter of Irving and Iolanthe Wallace Seabury.
Marion attended Yarmouth schools and she in the first class to graduate from North Yarmouth Academy. She worked various jobs when she was younger, but was mostly a homemaker. She married Edwin “Brownie” Brown on New Year’s Day, January 1, 1940, who predeceased her on December 18, 2010 – they were just shy of their seventieth wedding anniversary. She was living in the same home that she shared with Brownie for sixty five years. Until two months ago she was able to live alone.
Marion was a very strong, independent woman. She faced the last two months with so much courage and dignity. We admire you, “Mum”.
She loved “dressing up”, rides in the car, going for ice cream and out to eat. Visits from the great-grandkids always made her happy. In her younger years she took many trips to Florida, “Disney World”, day trips to Boston, shopping at the mall in Maine and New Hampshire and out for breakfast with “Brownie”. Always active, she read the newspaper every day with a magnifying glass due to macular degeneration. We will miss you, “Mum”.
Other than her parents, Marion was predeceased by her husband Edwin “Brownie” in December 2010, her sister Ruth S. Baker and her three brothers: Roscoe, Joseph and Marshall Seabury. She is survived by her two daughters: Frances B. Rioux and her husband Robert of Yarmouth and Lois J. Brown of Old Orchard Beach. “Nana” will be greatly missed by her two grandchildren: Robin Reed and her husband Alan of New Gloucester and Brian Rioux and his fiancée Alison and her two children, Payton and Cody of Yarmouth. “Ninny” will be missed and fondly remembered by her three great-grandchildren: Emily and Dylan Reed of New Gloucester and Joey Rioux of Yarmouth; five nieces: Margery Estabrook, Barbara Estabrook, Pat Krieger, Gail Seabury and Martha Seabury; four nephews: Brad, Scott, Steven and David Seabury; and her feline companion “Tex”.
We would like to thank Dr. James Haller for keeping our mother well and healthy all these years.
A private burial was held on December 11, 2015 at Riverside Cemetery in Yarmouth. Please visit www.lindquistfuneralhome.com to view a video collage of Marion’s life and to share condolences, memories and tributes with her family.
