FALMOUTH – Rosalie Frances (Chenery) Poirier passed away peacefully on January 6, 2016 surrounded by her family at Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth. Rosie was born on May 3, 1936 in Andover, Maine, to Eva and Earl Chenery. On March 22, 1961 she married her beloved husband, Albert Poirier in Auburn, Maine and together they raised five children.
Rosie was always known to be a very friendly and outgoing person. She found fun wherever she went. She was active in the Falmouth community and found many ways to help others. She was a Girl Scout troop leader, coached little league, and proudly served as a member of the Falmouth Emergency Medical Team for many years. She also provided CPR training to local businesses and schools and she spent countless hours volunteering at Ocean View in Falmouth, thoroughly enjoying the time she spent with the residents.
Rosie took great joy in raising her children and in spending time with her grandchildren; she didn’t miss an opportunity for family fun, skiing, sledding, playing ball in the yard, canoeing and camping. Her love for camping and travel was fulfilled after Al’s retirement when they had an opportunity to do some traveling.
Rosie is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Albert Poirier of Falmouth; her children, Michael Poirier (Patty) of North Waterboro; Marlene Costa (Jerry) of Falmouth; James Poirier of South Berwick; Tracy Faulkner (Robert) of Vincennes, Indiana; and Stephen Poirier (Cindy) of Adams, Massachusetts. She leaves behind five grandchildren, Kristen Crockett, Katrina Robinson, Shayna Smith, Mitchell Poirier and Trinity Webber; two step-grandchildren, Shaun Barrett and Kayla Barrett, and one great grandson, Keegan Robinson.
Rosie is also survived by one brother and four sisters, Clayton Chenery of South Paris; Caroline Laverdiere of Bowdoin; Roberta Gordon of Norway; Jean Day of Lewiston; and Patricia Chenery of Norway.
The family would like to thank the caring and compassionate staff of Sedgewood Commons for their loving care of Rosie over the years.
Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation to be held on Sunday, January 10 from
4 to 7 pm at Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, January 11 at 11 o’clock at the Parish of the Holy Eucharist (Holy Martyrs) 266 Foreside Road, Falmouth.
