Freeport—Teresa Miller Murray, 82, died September 23, 2015 at the Freeport Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Freeport, surrounded by her family.
She was born May 28, 1933, in Manila, The Philippines. She was a graduate of Holy Spirit College and first embarked on a career as a high school teacher of English Literature in Baguio City, making her first move to Washington D.C. in order to pursue a Master of Arts at Catholic University of America. Teresa would later continue her studies at the University of Western Australia in Political Science.
Teresa may have had a scholarly bent, but she put her family first. She married her husband, Dr. F.J. (Jerry) Murray in 1963 and then began a series of moves. Together— and with their two daughters—they lived in five countries on four continents in the course of their 52 year marriage. She was an active partner in her husband’s anthropological work and managed households and accounts and family matters no matter where she managed to find herself. She was a fearless woman, and this served her well. Her strength and industry, intelligence and indomitable spirit will be sorely missed by her survivors, but most of all her uncompromising love for her family. She always put others first.
Family would like to thank the staff of the Freeport Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their exemplary care of Teresa, for their thoughtful presence and respectful, tender work. We are grateful.
Teresa is survived by her loving husband Francis J. (Jerry) Murray, her daughters Norma Murray and Sabina Murray, her son-in-law John Hennessy, her grandsons Jeremiah Murray, Nicholas Hennessy and Gabriel Hennessy. She is also survived by her siblings Reverend Raymond Miller, S.J., Rufina Miller Moreno, Isabel Miller Reyes, and numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass was held in her honor in Manila, Philippines on September 24, 2015. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2015, at Sacred Heart Church, 326 Main St, in Yarmouth.
Arrangements are by Lindquist Funeral Home, Yarmouth.
