
Albert David Levesque of Larrimore Rd., Yonkers, New York, died peacefully December 24, 2013 in the loving care of his son and daughters in Springfield, VT. He was 91 years young. He was born in Yonkers, NY, November 4, 1922, the son of Albert Joseph Levesque and Mary Mychaliszn.
He married the former June Anita Onody of Brooklyn on January 28, 1950. He is predeceased by June and their daughter Holly Marie Januzzi. He is survived by a son, Jeffrey Levesque of Charles Town, WV, and two daughters, Jeanie Levesque and Mary Jo Grennan of Springfield, VT, six grandchildren (Earl and Michael Grennan of Vermont, Laura Levesque of West Virginia, David Levesque of Pennsylvania, Michelle Januzzi of Maryland, and Nick Januzzi of Florida), five great-grandchildren (Alex Levesque, Caleb and Thea Madagan of West Virginia, and Ellen and Rachel Levesque of Pennsylvania), a daughter-in-law, Beverly Levesque of West Virginia, and a son-in-law, Bill Lockwood of Vermont.
After graduating from the Yonkers High School of Commerce, he served in the US Navy from 1943 through 1945, at the Roosevelt Roads ship repair facility in Puerto Rico, as a welder and sheet metal worker, a skill that he continued at Jager and Franzmann, Burroughs Welcome and finally, Union Carbide. During those years he also worked regularly as a basketball referee and baseball umpire for local high schools and community leagues. After his retirement from Union Carbide he turned to his passion for ballroom dancing, and reinvented himself as "DJ Al", lending his talents to house parties, local social events, dance instructors, the Albanian Temple in Hartsdale, NY and Dance Charisma in Flushing, Queens. Known as "Frenchy" to many of his friends, he was kind, fun loving, creative and quirky and will be greatly missed not only by his family but by his many friends and ballroom dance enthusiasts. He loved good food, shopping for bargains, and adored his cats,whom he considered his companions.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, December 28, from 1:00 to 5:00 pm at Whalen and Ball Funeral Home, 168 Park Avenue, Yonkers. Internment will be at Rose Hills Memorial Park, Putnam Valley, NY.
