Andrea Prosper, lovingly known as SéSé, was born on September 19, 1931 to the late George and Alexandrina Prosper, in La Plaine, Dominica. Andrea was the first born of nine children (Augustine, Andrea Prosper, age 87, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her daughter and sisters on July 19, 2019, two months shy of her 88th birthday.Belthomie, Christina, John, Richard, Ruth, Agnes, and Joanna), and her love for her family and community was evident throughout her entire life. Andrea was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt to many. Throughout her childhood, she sacrificed her education to care for her parents and siblings. Her three children, Raymond, Hubert and Agatha, were her pride and joy and she loved them unconditionally. Her selfless desire to help and care for others were present in her household as she willingly and lovingly raised her siblings’ children as her own. She opened her heart to all and was always concerned about the wellbeing of those that were dear to her. She loved her neighbors in Dominica and New York very dearly including Ann and Leslie, Etta, Annette, Juliette, Marvelyn, and the Newton’s, Augustine’s, Prosper’s, Lawrence’s, Stedman’s, and Philbert’s family, to name a few. Andrea was the Matriarch of the Prosper family and the epitome of love, happiness, and joy. She was a living representation of the scriptural verse, Ephesians 4:32, “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.” Her caring and sweet personality was embraced by countless people and she will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her affectionate personality, and her encouraging words of advice and wisdom. Her final guiding words were to “live in unity, happiness, peace and love” with each other. Andrea enjoyed music, dancing, cooking, sewing, gardening and being in the company of her family and friends. When she immigrated to the Bronx, New York in 1999, she expanded her mathematics, spelling and English. Her sister, Ruth, provided her with academic exercises to improve her literacy and she developed a love for the English language. She would often times say, “thank you” and “this is sufficient for me”. Above all, Andrea loved the Almighty Father and sought him daily. She was a devout Catholic and received both her communion and confirmation at the La Plaine Roman Catholic Church. Her unrelenting faith inspired others to seek Christ fervently and she admired her rosaries. She led and recited the Lord’s Prayer and the Seven Sacraments at the St. John’s Riverside Hospital hand-in-hand with her family. Andrea is survived by her children (Agatha, Raymond, Hubert), grandchildren (Marsha, Mara, Myra, Denby, Dante, Damian, Danell), greatgrandchildren (Malachi, Lily, David, Zai), godchild (Stacia), siblings (Ruthie, Agnes, Joanna, Augustine) and a host of nieces (Betty, Jennifer, Jackie, Cathy, Concy, Liz), and nephews (Owen, Dennis, Tony, Davis), too numerous to mention. Her legacy of love, happiness, and unity will be remembered and celebrated through the hearts of those that were fortunate to know her and be loved by her. Wake and Funeral will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at 9 a.m. at the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home, 168 Park Avenue, Yonkers, NY 10703.
