
Bernard G. Brown, Sr., a long time Yonkers resident died on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at the age of 78. He was born on March 18, 1933 to the late Nathaniel Brown and Ira Lyndall G. Brown in Newport News, VA. He was educated in Richmond, VA pubic schools, graduating from West Virginia State College. He began his career in 1954 as a teacher in New Britain, CT. He was a salesman for Addresssograph Multigraph Corporation for 20 years. He retired from Mag Jak Printing Company in 1995. The game of tennis became his second career and he taught tennis for the City of Yonkers Department of Parks and Recreation. He was a member of Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bronx, NY, and the Runyon Heights Senior Citizens Bowling League. He formerly served as the President of the Yonkers African-American Heritage Committee, Inc. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Andrea Clark Brown, his children, Bernard, Jr. (Eartha), Michael , (Jennifer), Carl (Patricia), and Diana Brown; two stepchildren, Melanie Richardson, and John Clark; his siblings, Lyndall Braxton, Charles (Patricia), and Daniel Brown (Joyce); 12 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Natalie Samuels, Nathaniel, and Joseph Brown.
Visiting hours will be at the Redeemer Evangelical Church, 4360 Rev. Theodore Wittrock Crossing (Boyd and Barnes Avenues), Bronx, New York, 10466, 718-324-1288 on Wednesday, June 29th from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. Home going services will take place on Thursday, June 30th at 10:30 a.m. with viewing from 9:30 a.m. - 10:15 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
