Caridad Fernandez

Caridad Fernandez of Yonkers died on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at age 86. She was born on September 8, 1924 to Jose and Rosa (Guerreiro) Fernandez in Havana, Cuba. She has been a Yonkers resident for almost fifty years. Mrs. Fernandez worked as a housekeeper for St. John’s Hospital for over thirty four years; retiring in 1997. On May 8, 1945 she married Orlando Fernandez in Cuba, he died in 1980. Caridad was a Parishioner of St. Mary’s Church. She is survived by her two daughters, Miriam (Paulino, Sr.) Forte of Yonkers and Caridad (Manuel) Gutierrez of Miami, Florida. She is also survived by her five grandchildren; Paulino (Paula) Jr., Alejandro (Tessa), Antonio J. (Martha), Victoria Gutierrez and Ana (Andy) Dieppa and her six great-grandchildren; Gabriella, Daniela, Amanda, Antonio, Andrew and Aiden, also her sister Margot Sanchez. She was predeceased by her brother Jose Fernandez and her sister Maria Teresa Fernandez. Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. only. A Mass of Christian Burial will be in St. Mary’s Church, 103 South Broadway, on Thursday, June 16th at 10:00 a.m. Interment Mt. Hope Cemetery.
