Catherine M. Quilty

Catherine M. Quilty a lifelong Yonkers resident died peacefully surrounded by her family at St. John’s Riverside Hospital on Monday August 1, 2011. She was 85. Catherine was born in Yonkers on May 18, 1926 to John and Sarah Somers Brennan where she was raised and attended Commerce High School. On June 2, 1951 she married Daniel E. Quilty in Sacred Heart Church, he died in 1999. She was a parishioner of Christ the King Church, was an avid Yankee fan, a worldwide traveler and enjoyed Broadway Plays and music. She had a beautiful voice and was often asked to sing at gatherings, her signature song was “Danny Boy”. Catherine was a generous, caring, and selfless woman who always put others before herself. Her late husband Dan was the love of her life, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride & joy. Catherine is survived by her loving children Daniel E. Quilty (Meg), Tricia (Jim), and Anne Marie, her sisters Betty Flynn, Sally Smith (Bill), Josephine Neil (Jim), in laws Edward and Rose Quilty, her grandchildren John (Mara) Zappia and Jacqueline (Eric) Sanes, her great grandchildren Jordan and Jenna Lynn Sanes. She was predeceased by a brother Peter Brennan, a brother in law Bill Flynn and her sister in law Margaret Quilty. Visiting hours will be in the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday August 5th at 10am in Christ the King Church. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
