

Francis J. Messar, Jr., 77, of Yonkers, New York, passed away on June 8, 2025, in his hometown. A lifelong resident of Yonkers, he was born there on October 5, 1947 to Francis J. Messar, Sr. and Rita Messar (Byrne).
Frank graduated from Sacred Heart High School and continued his education at Westchester Community College. He went on to dedicate his life to public service, spending over four decades with the Yonkers Police Department. Rising through the ranks to become Captain, he earned numerous awards and commendations throughout his distinguished career. His leadership and commitment left a lasting impact on the department and the community he served.
Following his retirement from the police force, Frank continued to share his expertise as an instructor in Incident Management with the New York Office of Emergency Management. His dedication to public safety extended well beyond his years in uniform.
Frank was predeceased by his beloved wife and high school sweetheart, Carol A. Messar (O'Rourke). Frank was deeply devoted to his family. He is survived by his sons: Francis J. Messar III (Cathy) of Maywood, NJ and Michael B. Messar (Anna) Capt. YPD, cherished grandchildren: Daniel, Brian, Meghan and Brendan. He is heart-brokenly survived by his two sisters, Charleen Messar-Lipski (Walter) and Cathy Nappi. He will be greatly missed by his several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews and his close friend Nancy Scovotti.
Outside of work and family, Frank found joy in coaching little league teams and PBA softball teams. He took pride in organizing the Old Timers' Police Picnic—an event that brought together generations of officers in camaraderie and celebration. A passionate sports enthusiast, he was a season ticket holder for Army football for 50 years and an avid fan of the New York Yankees.
Francis J. Messar, Jr.'s legacy is one of service, loyalty, and love for community. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him. A Wake will be held on June 11, 2025, from 02:00 PM to 08:00 PM at Whalen and Ball Funeral Home 168 Park Avenue. Yonkers. A Funeral Mass will be held on June 12, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Monastery Church of the Sacred Heart 110 Shonnard Place, Yonkers.
