Known as “Big Jimmy” by his friends and family, Jimmy was born in Yonkers, NY on November 6, 1950 and remained a lifelong resident. Jimmy was a US Army Veteran, serving our country in the Vietnam War. He was proud of his Irish heritage, having marched in the Yonkers St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
Jimmy was a longtime member of the Lakers Athletic & Social Club, having served as one of the club’s past Presidents. As a Laker, he participated and helped coordinate an annual Memorial Day ceremony to honor deceased veterans of the 6th ward.
He was an avid reader, often going through several books in a short period of time. Lake George became a home away from home for Jimmy, where he shared time with friends and family, often helping to set up the Winter Festival on the lake. He had a love of racehorses and the track, and co-owned a few with close friends.
Jimmy is pre-deceased by his mother, Agnes (nee Powers), father, Edward, and son James Jr. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judy (nee Howley), daughter, Kristen Pisano, son-in-law James Pisano, grandson Joseph Galligan, and granddaughter Alyssa Pisano.
All services are private.
Jimmy’s family would like to extend their deepest thanks and appreciation to the staff at the Bronx VA who cared for him. The staff treated him like a member of their own family, and it didn’t go unnoticed.
