
Joseph P. McMahon of Yonkers died on Monday, March 7, 2011 at age 84. Born on August 12, 1926 to John and Loretta (Engle) in Yonkers where he was raised and graduated from Gorton High School and received his B.S. in engineering at Manhattan College. Mr. McMahon worked as an engineer for the City of Yonkers; retiring in 2004.Prior to that he worked for the Army Corp of Engineers for over thirty years. On October 13, 1951 he married Ann Ferguson in Sacred Heart Church, she died in 2008. Joe was a Parishioner of Sacred Heart, a member of the Amackassin Club where he served as President and many other positions. He also was a former usher at the church and Holy Name Society. He was a World War II Navy Veteran and attended Officer Candidate School. Mr. McMahon is survived by his six children; Patrick (Leigh) McMahon (YPD) of Somers; Michael McMahon of Yonkers, Joseph (Maureen) McMahon of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; Ellen (Michael) O’Neill of Yonkers, Carol Kerr of Lake Carmel and Loretta (Lora) Bernhardi of Yonkers. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and his twin brother John (Sharon) McMahon (ret-YPD). He also raised his grandsons, John and Joseph Licht. In addition he also raised his nephew Walter Clark Brendler.
Visiting hours will be at the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. & 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred heart Church on Thursday, March 10th at 11:00 a.m. Committal Service in Ferncliff Chapel.
