Marian V. O'Brien

She was born November 27, 1932 to Thomas J Carey, Jr. and Mary Drohan Carey in Yonkers, New York and she graduated from Blessed Sacrament High School. Marian met the love of her life, Bernard O’Brien, at a friend’s wedding where they were both attendants. They were married on July 19, 1953 at Our Lady of the Rosary Church.

Marian and Bernie had four children and she was active in her children’s activities and education. She shared her love of reading with her children, who fondly remember all of the stories she read to them. Bernie and Marian enjoyed attending dances at their church, the Amackassin Club, and company parties. Summers were spent at the local swim club and later at the family’s cabin in the Adirondacks where she enjoyed boating, swimming and entertaining friends and spending time with her family.

In 1977, Marian earned her RN from County College of Morris in Randolph, New Jersey. Marian was a nurse in several local hospitals and followed that with a long career at AT&T in supervisory positions. Marian and Bernie lived for over 25 years in Mendham, New Jersey before retiring to St. Augustine, Florida and then Bradenton, Florida.

Marian is survived by her husband, Bernard F. O’Brien, her children Kathleen (Paul) Pruss, Kerry (Jeoffrey) Hall, Gary (Elizabeth Conaway) O’Brien, and grandchildren Colleen (Aron) Lam, Matthew Hall, Erin Hall, and Thomas Bond. Marian was predeceased by her daughter Tara Bond, her son-in-law Thomas Bond and her sisters Mae Reese, June Konco, and Agnes Carey.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Church on Saturday July 31st at 10am. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
